10:45 – 11:00
Walk along Dionysiou Areopagitou Street to take in the scenery, characteristic of a city that has been inhabited for centuries: contemporary apartment buildings, neoclassical houses and the Acropolis rock with the Parthenon, the Theatre of Dionysus, the oldest theater of the world, and the Herodeion, the famous Roman Music Hall.
11:00 – 11:45
Sample traditional Greek wine and delicacies at Fine Wine, an authentic old-fashioned wine store, housed in a terracotta building in Plaka. Dimitris and Sofia, the owners, are veritable oenophiles and will be eager to give you a warm welcome as they share the bounties of Greece’s time honored winemaking tradition.
OR (Thursdays only from September to June)
A personal taste of Greek hospitality over coffee and traditional sweet at an old Athenian manor in Plaka. The house features an original, 300-year-old staircase built for the original owners—a noble family from Corsica and Provence—and a hagiati, a characteristic wooden balcony that is a recurring theme in Ottoman architecture. The current owner will talk about the people who lived in the house and tell stories about the creation of the Modern Greek state.
12:00 – 13:15
Visit to the Acropolis Museum, accompanied by a field expert – licensed archaeologist, to discover a different experience of the Acropolis monuments, through artifacts, sculptures, and architectural elements of the temples.
