Activity Description

Join this delicious walking food tour away from the crowded and busy streets of Heraklion so you can get the real feel of the city and its flavors. Alongside a local food and culture specialist you will engage in exploring the city bite by bite and learn about the local way of life. You will shop your way into the kitchen, in a great cooking setting and live a hands on cooking experience with the ingredients you have purchased together. Walk, talk, cook, eat and meet the locals in this special private food tour.

• Organic fruit market

The day starts in the organic fruit market of Heraklion, in a park in the city centre. Here you will meet with local producers of fresh fruits and vegetables, you will learn about the seasonal production and discuss with them the challenges of organic farming on the island of Crete.

• Local bakery

On your next stop, aromas and beautiful scents of freshly baked bread, cookies and pies will explode in your nose and pallet. Here you will get fresh bread and pastry that will be used during your cooking session later in the day.

• Chat and coffee

No walk is done properly unless it involves a stop for a chat. Therefore, your next stop is for a quick coffee to catch your breath and discuss about the island, the food traditions, the culture surrounding its cuisine as well as the reason this cuisine has not made it into fine restaurants around the world.

• Grocery store and tasting

All rested and renewed with a boost of energy from your coffee, you will move to a small grocery store where you will taste cheese and other interesting local products in one of the city’s most interesting squares. After your mini tasting and shopping you will end up in the tasting room.

• Cretan Cooking Class

Time to prepare all the goodies you have purchased, creating a tasty Cretan menu. You will have a hands-on experience in Cretan cooking and will create dishes based on the stories you’ve heard and the experiences you’ve had the opportunity to live together with you rhost.

Cancellation up to 45 days before the workshop: full refund; 15 days prior to workshop: 80% refundable; 14-7 days before the workshop: 50% refundable; 7-4 days before the workshop: 10% refundable; cancellation performed less than 4 days before the excursion, latecomers and no shows: no refund.
