A Treasure Trove of Jewellery: A Unique Tour of Benaki Museum

Full itinerary

Discover more than 6000 years of Greek jewelry—from prehistoric craftsmanship through modern design—in one unforgettable experience. Explore the site, sounds and shops of chic Vasilissis Sofias Avenue and end up at the Benaki Museum, Greece’s most comprehensive collection of cultural artifacts spanning all eras of Greek society.

After a welcome by museum personnel, the field expert will guide guests through the Benaki’s vast collections of jewelry, from ancient through Byzantine and modern times. The guide will explain the various processes and materials that fueled Greece’s jewelry trade over the ages, and the customs and rituals that put jewelry at the heart of Greek culture.

In an exclusive arrangement with the museum, guests will then be invited to visit the museum’s underground vaults and hold in their hands the precious artifacts of the 19th century that are currently not on public display.

Afterwards, as a special surprise for all jewelry lovers, a De Beers Diamonds International Award jewelry designer winner will join guests at the Museum to explain the practice, history and many wonders of Greek jewelry art. The celebrated designer will delve into the time-honored techniques and tools she uses in crafting her own artistic creations, and even allow guests to view her work in person.

The tour closes with a light lunch at the Museum’s restaurant featuring breathtaking views of the National Garden and a special surprise from the Museum’s gift shop.

The Vendor also offers its guests the opportunity to spend an unforgettable night at the Museum (Closed Museum Tour), which will open its doors exclusively for them. The night includes a private tour of the jewelry collection, an exclusive hands-on experience at the Museum’s vaults and a private, catered dinner at the rooftop restaurant.
