WHY WE LOVE IT

Activity Description

Join a local expert guide who will reveal to you the lesser-known aspects of Minoan culture, avoiding the rush hours at Knossos and the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion. This guided tour is a must on your visit to Crete!

On this full day tour, you will visit the first prehistoric palace of Knossos, the most visited place of Crete, birthplace of Minoan civilization and the origin of the myth of the labyrinth. Knossos was excavated in the early 20th century by the great English archaeologist Arthur Evans, it is the largest of the Minoan palaces dated back to 2000 B.C. and has been partially restored.
After a guided tour to Knossos with your licensed expert guide you will continue your tour to Heraklion, the capital of Crete, for a guided visit to the Archaeological Museum. The recently-renewed Herakleion museum is one of the largest and most important museums of Greece and among the most important museums in Europe. It houses representative artefacts from all the periods of Cretan prehistory and historic times, covering a chronological span of over 5,500 years from the Neolithic period to the Roman times.
Following the stimulating guided tours you will have free time to explore the city of Heraklion, the largest urban centre of Crete, capital of the region and economic centre of the island.

After a day of history and awe you will return back to your hotel late in the afternoon.
